Family with a Wagon
title Family with a Wagondescription This photograph shows a family that appears to be getting ready to leave in a wagon. To the left, a man wearing a suit and hat is leaning down to pick up a young girl with curls wearing a plaid shirt and white dress. The woman directly to the right is wearing a white shirt with a dark skirt and bonnet and has her hands outstretched to push the girl forward; she has a white bonnet in her right hand. There are two young boys on the right, both wearing with shirts and dark slacks. There is a large duffel bag infront of the man and the little girl. The wagon has large wheels and a white cover over the top. There is something wooden sticking out the back with initials on it (they appear to be 'WTJ') and a lantern hanging off of it. Behind the wagon there is a large tree. Border Stories Working Title From One Side To Another: Film Still Of Woman Carrying Suitcase Down A Road
title Border Stories Working Title From One Side To Another: Film Still Of Woman Carrying Suitcase Down A Roaddescription Film, Audio, Video and Digital Art Former First National Bank building, San Diego (Calif.) New York City-based artist Judith Barry created a video installation for inSITE2000 that was viewable in four large windows of the old First National Bank Building on the corner of Broadway and 5th Avenue in downtown San Diego. Barry envisioned the programming on these four large screens as a simulation of a broadcast network containing elements created by the artist, as well as contributions by other inSITE artists, established film directors, and students. Barry spent weeks in the region collecting materials to create seven short films that became part of this network - a project she titled "Border stories working title from one side to another." These films were shot on both sides of the border and explored the recollected stories of border experiences. --inSITE2000 Special Collections & Archives, UC San Diego, La Jolla, 92093-0175 (https://lib.ucsd.edu/sca) This film still is a scan of a 35mm color slide from the InSite Archive (MSS 707, Box 309, Folder 02, Item 036) [Title, Date]. title Crossroads/Baggage Building: General View With Telephone Handsetdescription Artist Johnny Coleman described his installation "Crossroads/BAGGAGE BUILDING/Encrucijadas/BODEGA DE EQUIPAJE," located in the baggage building in the Santa Fe Depot, as a "found poem consisting of stories collected by following the tracks." The artist spent months traveling the California railroad to collect stories of migration and personal accounts of working on the railroad. The Loop: Box Of Correspondance
title The Loop: Box Of Correspondancedescription Centro Cultural Tijuana From June 1 to July 5, 1997, Francis Alys traveled from Tijuana to San Diego without crossing the US-Mexico border by circumnavigating the globe. His project, The Loop, took him from his starting point at the border fence in Tijuana, to the same point on the border fence in San Diego. Stopping in places such as Australia, China, and Canada, Alys documented the trip through email, journal entries, photographs, and mementos found along the way. Alys stated that his project was an investigation of the verbal, visual, and bicultural, and was to remain independent from any critical implications and conclusions beyond the physical displacement of the artist. This documentation, as well as a series of postcards created by the artist during his travels, was displayed at the CECUT during the public phase of inSITE97. --inSITE97 Performing Arts (including Performance Art) Sculpture and Installations Special Collections & Archives, UC San Diego, La Jolla, 92093-0175 (https://lib.ucsd.edu/sca) This image is a scan of a 35mm color slide from the InSite Archive (MSS 707, Box 309, Folder 01, Item 023) [Title, Date]. Conceptually focused on the ideas of migration, mobility, and rhythm, Wilson filmed these sequences over the course of several months. An emphasis was put on portraying the urban and natural landscape of the region, with the individuals who live, work, and move within them. An event was organized to present projected segments of "Interstice" at the in(fo)SITE in San Diego on February 22, 2001, and included multiple projections, hip-hop music, and graffiti artists. -- inSITE2000 Performing Arts (including Performance Art) San Diego (Calif.)
