Its purpose was to fill the ceremonial void in the Chicano Movement. This ceremonia is to honor the coming of age of our Chicana youths represented by Chicanas to represent "Xilonen"[,] a young tender ear of corn (maiz). The first Xilonen's nam was Maria Maiz."
