A rectangular plank of wood with a world globe inserted in its center is suspended from the ceiling. The piece is tilted and hangs diagonally. The text underneath the plank contains a quote from Henry David Thoreau: "If I have unjustly wrested a plank from a drowning man, I must restore it to him though I drown myself." Refers to the U.S. occupation of Mexican territory. The artist of any work retains all rights to that work. Copyright has not been assigned to the Regents of the University of California. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
