The mural is dedicated to the contributions made by African Americans and Latinos to building the United States. The left side is dominated by images from the black history, including an African playing a traditional horn, music legend Duke Ellington, dancer Bill "Bojangels" Robinson, singer and political activist Paul Robeson, Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad, and opera singer Marian Anderson. On the mural's right, prominent Mexicans, such as revolutionary Emiliano Zapata, artist Frida Kahlo, and peasant leader Benito Juarez are depicted.
