Annotation
This print portrays a woman in profile and depicted in bold colors and a graphic style. The woman’s features emphasize chola hair, makeup, and fashion. Inspired by his older sister’s classes in Chicano studies, the artist developed an awareness of his Chicano identity. During the print’s creation, Jesus Barraza reflected on Chicana feminism of the 1960s and the mid-1970s, an influential era of activism and cultural expression. Additionally, the print is a collaborative effort with his partner, Melanie Cervantes, and represents a significant advancement in his artistic journey.
