Fenton M. Slaughter served during the Mexican-American War and came to California during the Gold Rush. He became a successful sheep farmer and purchased grazing land from Raymondo Yorba in San Bernardino County. The site included the Yorba-Slaughter Adobe, a historic adobe house, located at 17127 Pomona Rincon Road in Chino, California. His daughter Julia restored the ranch and created a museum. The adobe was designated a California Historical Landmark on June 20, 1935. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 7, 1975. It is now a branch museum of the San Bernardino County Museum.
